Writing Center Tutors Awarded the Raines Fellowship for Summer Research

Posted in Spotlights

We are eager to announce that two of our undergraduate tutors, Jasmine Alas-Castillo (’25) and Daniella Arevalo (’25) have been awarded the Lisa J. Raines Fellowship! The fellowship will fund their research on the relationship between low-income, first-generation, and working class (LIFGWC) students and university writing centers. Specifically, they will investigate LIFGWC tutors and their experiences within the Writing Center, as well as the resources and support writing centers provide for these students.

This summer, Jasmine and Daniella will research the writing centers of different universities across the country, conducting interviews with tutors and university staff. They will write a report that summarizes their findings and discusses implications for university and Writing Center practices.

We are so proud of you, Jasmine and Daniella! We look forward to integrating the findings of your investigation with our work throughout the year.
