First Ever Round of DEI Graduate Writing Workshops Concluded!

The Georgetown Writing Center, in partnership with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
(DEI) team in the Office of Graduate Enrichment, has just concluded its first ever workshop
series tailored towards first-generation higher education students, international students,
multilingual students, veterans and active duty military service members, and students who
have been out of school for some time. Topics covered include Introduction to Graduate Writing
Expectations, Research Techniques, Outlining, Editing and Revising, Accountability Sessions,
Job Search Writing, and Thesis and Dissertation Q&A. Over the course of one year, the
workshops have served hundreds of Georgetown’s graduate students.

This initiative was led by Kyra Green (Assistant Director of DEI in the Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences), Chiara Casanova (Graduate Assistant in the Office of Graduate
Enrichment), and graduate tutor Thomas Ohno-Machado (‘23). The initiative was further
supported by Phil Sandick (Interim Director of the Georgetown Writing Center), writing center
leaders Isabel Janovsky and Hillary Zeng, and many other tutors on staff.

We aim to offer these services again next year, so be on the lookout for more information as the
Fall Semester begins!
