BECOMING A TUTOR
If you enjoy talking about writing and assisting others in the
writing process, then speak to a faculty member or to the Writing Center
Director about the nomination process. After completing an application
and a series of interviews, nominees are informed by the end of the semester
if they have been selected.
The foundation for the Writing Center is a four-credit fall-semester seminar entitled “Approaches to English Composition,” that interrogates the purposes of academic discourse and considers practical issues in the teaching of writing. “Approaches to English Composition” incorporates learning through doing, so that tutoring in the Writing Center is critical both to weekly class discussion and to the readings and written work required. Through this course, students learn how to tutor writing one-on-one and put what they learn into practice.
To explore this opportunity, contact the Writing Center Director, Maggie Debelius, at 202-687-2998 or email the Writing Center at writingcenter@georgetown.edu .
