2013-14 UNDERGRADUATE TUTOR APPLICATION
The Georgetown Writing Center welcomes undergraduate applications from all years, majors, and schools. The best ways to get a sense of whether you want to pursue this opportunity are to:
- Read about us on this site
- Use the Center to get feedback on your writing
- Talk with some current tutors about what we do
The foundation for the Writing Center is a four-credit fall-semester seminar entitled “Approaches to English Composition,” that considers practical and theoretical issues in the teaching of writing. “Approaches to English Composition” incorporates learning through doing, so that tutoring in the Writing Center is critical both to weekly class discussion and to the readings and written work required.
Those who complete IDST 298 may apply for readmission to the program and serve as veteran tutors. Returning tutors register for IDST 299 or 300 in which they complete a major independent study project and serve as mentors to the new tutors.
Please note that you need both a faculty and a peer reference. Contact your references early to give them ample time to write a letter. Please submit your application and supplementary materials online by Wednesday, March 13, 2013 by 5pm (right after Spring Break).
Selected applicants will be invited to interview in late March and early April. Contact us at writingcenter@georgetown.edu with any questions.
