Writing Center Awards

Writing Center Awards, sponsored by US News & World Report

The Writing Center Awards recognize exceptional student writing. Any piece written for a First Year Writing or Integrated Writing course during the 2015-2016 school year is eligible for submission – as long as you’ve worked on it with the Writing Center.

Winners of each category – First Year Writing and Integrated Writing – will receive prizes of $500 and have their pieces published on the Writing Center’s and Writing Program’s websites. Additionally, winners will have the opportunity to meet with top editors at US News & World Report, the awards sponsor.

To enter:

  • Make a Writing Center appointment at georgetown.mywconline.com
  • Send your work as a .pdf to WritingCenterAwards@gmail.com by April 1, 2016
  • Include your category – either FYW or IW – and your netID in the document, but please delete your name to allow for anonymous evaluations

Submissions will be evaluated anonymously on a point-scale using the following criteria: argument, evidence, structure, clarify, concision, correctness, and overall style and creativity. Winners will be notified via email in late April.

The First Year Writing Requirement is fulfilled by WRIT-012, WRIT-015, and the Liberal Arts Seminar. Courses that fulfill the Integrated Writing Requirement are determined by each department and are available on department websites. If you have any trouble determining the Integrated Writing courses for a department, email WritingCenterAwards@gmail.com and we’ll let you know.
